Green Walk Initiative
We are at the end of the school year and we have had another successful term in our Green Walk where the children do their best to walk, bike, scoot, bus, carpool and park & stride to school in an effort to reduce the amount of traffic on our roads and in turn have a positive impact on our environment. The overall average for this term is 82% of children taking part. The winners are 5th class (yet again!) with an average of 95%, 6th class are a close second with 94% and 2nd class are third with 91%. Special mention to 1st class who have an average of 85%. As a reward for such good averages throughout the year, we had an inflatable obstacle course out in the back yard for all the children to take turns on. Needless to say this was a big hit and it was great to see the reaction of all the children when they saw it that morning. We also had a visit from the ice cream van and everyone was able to enjoy a delicious oreo cone. Thank you to the parents for encouraging your children to take part in the Green Walk Programme and we look forward to another successful year for 2024/2025.

BLAST ART
Artist in Residence
5th and 6th class were very lucky to participate in the Blast Art
Initiative last November.
They worked with the artist Liadain Butler. The children learned all
about the different flora and fauna of the Curragh of Kildare and
they collaborated together to make a beautiful St. Brigid’s Cloak.
The children did preparatory drawings and used water to attach
the felt flowers. They did a fantastic job and the cloak now hangs
proudly in the front hall for all to admire.

A huge thank you to Newbridge Rotary Club for the kind donation this year. We are very grateful for the support.
What a day! What a performance! St.Patrick's NS were the life a soul of the Christmas atmosphere on Friday in White Water. We took the roof off. Great singing everyone. We raised a whopping 1,039.00 euro for the hospice from the wonderful carol singing. Well done to everyone involved.
SNAPSHOT ;)
Friday the 17th of November was a great day in St. Patrick's.
We had a 5th and 6th class science fair which was fantastic. Check out the pictures on the class twitter pages. We also participated in a debate in 6th class against Two Mile House. It was a super debate and St. Patrick's came out on top with the win - on to the next round for us! We are so proud of everyone that was involved and all their hard work.

MATHS WEEK
We have had a super Maths week 2023 in St. Pat’s. Every class has been enjoying maths trails, games with other classes, extra puzzles and games throughout the week.
We have been solving problems everyday and focusing our “maths eyes” in the environment.
Mrs Pearson was blown away with the response to “wear a pattern” day on Thursday and we captured the maths symbols/pattens/shapes/numbers from the church gallery at our 6th class harvest assembly.
Mr Stone brought in a drone and we made a video of us all in our patterned clothing in the yard.
A heart felt thank you and well done to all involved. Happy Halloween 🎃

Kildare Nationalist — Newbridge school launches anti-bullying programme | Kildare Nationalist (kildare-nationalist.ie)
A NEWBRIDGE primary school has become the first school in the county to adopt an innovative new anti-bullying programme.
St Patrick’s NS in Newbridge unveiled their KiVa Antibullying Programme which is funded by Archways.
KiVa was created in Finland and has since been rolled-out worldwide. It has been piloted in several schools in Ireland already.
The goal of KiVa is to prevent bullying and tackle it effectively when it does occur.
“It’s evidence based and the programme has been subject to a huge amount of research and development,” said Home School Community Liaison Coordinator Steve Lynch. “It’s a very structured programme for a school to follow… Dealing with situations, there is a step-by-step guide for everybody.”
It is a proactive initiative with the whole school involved and it’s also child led. It aims to be engaging and interactive with online games and a workbook for students.
There is a Kindness Tree in the school where acts of kindness in the school are marked with the pupil’s name.
A great deal of work put in at St Patrick’s in preparation for the programme.
All staff underwent a training day while a committee of teachers will have additional training sessions throughout the school year.
Parents too will play their part with an information evening to be held in due course while the workbook and wellness exercises can be done at home with children.
The programme was launched with a very well attended assembly with many parents attending.
There was music from students while broadcaster Keith Walsh attended and talked about his own journey and celebrating our differences. Steve thanked parents for all their support and for all the delicious baked goods that were brought in for the assembly!

Travel Programme
Our walk, bike, scoot, bus, carpool, park & stride to school programme got off to a great start in September. First week back a total of 86% of our pupils took part with 5th class coming in first with 90% and 6th class a very close second with 89%. The following four weeks varied between 78% and 80% taking part with 5th class being consistently in the top two, 2nd class being first in week 3 and first class coming first in weeks 4 and 5. Since then our total figures have been between 78% and 84% with 1st class continuing their excellent streak of coming first for all of October with impressive figures in the 90s, peaking at 98%. Fantastic stuff! Special mention has to be made for both Junior Infants and Senior Infants who had their best scores of 77% and 80% respectively this month.
This travel programme is very important to us. The more children that travel to and from school by these environmentally friendly ways, the less congestion there will be on our roads. It's a win win for everyone so well done to you all for making great efforts this term so far and we look forward to you keeping up the good work in the coming months.
