Green School Travel Programme
As we come to the end of May, the children continue to make good efforts in our walk, bike, scoot, bus, carpool and park & stride programme. Since coming back after the Easter break, our overall figures have varied between 75% and 82% of children taking part with the last three weeks steadily increasing to reach the 82% last week. Special mention must be made to 1st class who are puling out all the stops and have been in the 90%s each week in this term so far. At the moment they are coming in at a very close second to the leaders 5th class, who again have not dipped below 90%. Well done to all and please keep up the good work. This is a great way to encourage the use of environmentally friendly modes of travel and it also helps ease the traffic congestion on our roads.

AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
April was Autism Awareness month and Mrs. Pearson signed us up for the AsIAm same chance challenge.
The whole school came together in the hall to play a game of heads or tails! The Acorns class were integrated with their mainstream class and everyone really enjoyed the game.
The aim of the game was to give every member of the school the “same chance” of winning regardless of their abilities or diagnoses.
There were prizes for each individual class winner and an overall winner of the whole group. Teachers and snas played too and congratulations to Sadie who won for the adults and a member of 3rd class for the students!
Mrs. Pearson made a donation to AsIAm to help keep up all the supports made available to parents and children from this wonderful organisation. If you wish to donate follow the link on their website asiam.ie

BISHOPS MEDAL
A massive thank you to everyone in St. Patrick’s for all the hard work and effort put into the Bishop’s medal project.
This year we did our project on St. Brigid. Every class had a part to play and it looks absolutely amazing.
5th class will be attending the service with the Bishop on 10th May where Bishop Pat will announce the winners. We hope we are lucky 🤞🏻
Mrs Pearson was the coordinator but a special mention to Mrs Walshe who brought it all together and enjoyed using her artistic flair with the clay model and scrapbook decorations.

End of Term
The children and teachers have been very busy this past term, with the highlight being Grandparents' Day. It was great that so many grandparents were able to attend, and to have them back in the school once again brought a great lift to the week. We also had World Book Day when the children looked great dressed up as their favourite book character.
All the children were very involved in our Seachtain na Gaeilge events and they all enjoyed their session with the 'Irish Juggler' who visited the school.
During this term the children have participated in basketball leagues and blitzes, chess tournaments, mini 7s tournaments in boys football and girls camogie, 5 a side soccer tournament and debating, and we have the cross country coming up in Rathcoffey. As well as all that, all our classes have been very busy preparing our project on Brigid 1500 for the Bishop's Medal competition.
I am delighted to tell you that there has been an increase in our 'green travel' to school participation particularly in 1st and 3rd classes who are now starting to challenge the senior classes. The winners this term with an impressive overall percentage of 93% were 5th class. Well done to all! When we come back after Easter our target will be to get 85% as our school average. This will be an achievable challenge as our average for this term is 75% but hopefully better weather will facilitate the increase in children taking part in our walk, bike, scoot, bus, park & stride and carpool to school programme.

BASKETBALL
Our senior Boys and Girls team played in the intermediate basketball finals this week in Scoil na Naomh Uilig, both teams playing Athgarvan
Up to this point, both teams had to play home and away games in their respective groups and they came through them in great fashion.
The boys were up first and straight from the tip, they started off at a lightening pace with a basket from Tiago. Alexandras helped to continue the scoring in the second quarter and they kicked on from there. The boys played exceptionally well throughout and put in one of their finest performances this year.
Alexandras and Mason received the cup as joint captains.
Next up was our Senior girls team. Much like the boys, they started off quickly with the first few scores in the first quarter with Elaine leading the charge.
They kept that pressure up in the second quarter with Anna hitting a few shots and they always kept a comfortable score between them and their opponents to close out the final 2 quarters.
The cup was presented to captains Faith and Sinead.
We would like to congratulate both teams for the effort and training they have put in all year and it was a well deserved win for both. We are very proud of them and they should be extremely proud of themselves too!!
